Saginaw SSD & SSI

Applying for SSD/SSI benefits to help pay for necessities when a disability makes it impossible to work is complicated, time-consuming and confusing. Our law firm is available to help people who are applying for benefits or working on appealing a denial. The Law Center for Social Security Rights has over 35 years of experience in working exclusively on SSD and SSI cases.

Qualifying for SSD or SSI

The first step in applying for SSD or SSI benefits is evaluating eligibility. The Social Security Administration (SSA) lists certain recognized disabilities that are covered by benefits, but people who suffer from a condition that is not listed could be eligible for benefits depending on the severity of their symptoms.

A valid diagnosis must be made by a licensed medical provider as proof of disability. Records related to treatment for the condition should be provided to the SSA as part of the application process. In order to increase chances of an approval, applicants should make it a point to regularly visit a medical professional for treatment and evaluations related to their disability.

Applications can be submitted to the SSA online, over the phone or through the mail. Regardless of the method used to send in an application, applicants are required to mail valid copies of their medical records.

The SSA takes several months to process applications, and it may take five or more months to receive a response. The Law Center for Social Security Rights is able to guide clients through the process of applying for benefits to keep the time between applying and approval as short as possible.

Appealing SSD and SSI Denials

Unfortunately, approximately 70 percent of applications for SSD/SSI benefits are denied. Receiving a denial notice can be scary when bills are piling up, but be aware that appealing is an option.

We're able to help our clients understand the reason for a denial and work to successfully appeal the decision. Insufficient proof of disability that stems from the medical records provided during the application process may be the reason for denial. We can help with gathering the records that are needed from medical providers.

While finding out that an application was denied after months of waiting for a response can be discouraging, there is no need to give up on SSD/SSI benefits.

Appealing to the Social Security Administration is not the end of the line. If your case is strong and we believe the SSA is in the wrong, we will go all the way to federal court. Unlike many firms, we will handle your federal appeal directly. Many other firms will use a third party to handle any federal appeal we will never do this for any Michigan SSD or SSI case we handle.
