The Law Center for Social Security Rights

was founded in 1976. We practice pursuant to our mission statement: Dedicated to protecting the Social Security and SSI rights of disabled adults and children.

Our entire practice is devoted exclusively to Social Security and SSI. Indeed, we are one of the largest law firms in Michigan that limits its practice to this one specialty. Our office consists of six attorneys and additional support staff who are all trained and experienced in Social Security Disability matters.

The Law Center for Social Security Rights

was created because of the intimidating process faced by those seriously disabled seeking aid through the Social Security system. We decided to implement an advocacy program, catered for the disabled, and carefully designed to relieve the overwhelming burden many associate with just applying. The mission is to provide effective, full service attorney representation at all levels of the process. Our commitment is to ensure that everyone who calls our Center will have their questions promptly answered without cost or obligation.

In order to accomplish this mission, we have excluded all other forms of legal practice. We are devoting ourselves exclusively to the practice of disability law. It is all we do.

To be effective requires trust not only from our clients, but just as importantly, from our clients' healthcare providers. The doctor, social worker, home health worker, aide, teacher, counselor, advocacy organization or support group must understand the significant role they play in the whole process. One very important function we perform is to try and make each of these entities aware of that role.

We accomplish this in many ways. Getting accurate information to, as well as from, the healthcare provider is critical. Success is accomplished by encouraging that provider to maintain an open, frank and ongoing dialogue with our attorneys.

We reach out to the professionals who assist the disabled
We work together with the health care professional, social worker and home health care community in assisting the seriously disabled. We have established the following as a means to that end:
  • Immediate, cost free phone consultations for the health care community, and other professional groups,
  • Quarterly newsletters distributed free of charge, providing the latest news and information on Social Security and SSI,
  • Informational seminars periodically scheduled to share information and answer questions,
  • Cost free, on-site guest speakers provided upon request,
  • Free pamphlets provided for patients, parents, and others who have a need or interest,
  • Informational web site provided for the community.
Our commitment to service
Our policy is to provide competent, comprehensive and compassionate representation. Cases are handled with the highest degree of professionalism and courtesy. We have a convenient toll-free 1-800 number and promise prompt attention to all calls.

Our goal, once a case is accepted, is to obtain benefits for our client as soon as possible. Knowing what the Social Security Administration (SSA) is looking for, and then providing it, is the key to early success. We maintain a high level of service through every phase, from application and development, to hearings and appeals. After the case is won, we are quick to provide the information needed for an expeditious processing of the past due benefits awarded.

Relationship with the professional community
Over the years, we have nurtured valued relationships with social workers, advocacy groups, and health care professionals. We would like to think that we have developed a mutual respect for one another's profession. We have seen first hand that the health care and legal professions can work together for the good of the patients. We welcome and encourage the direct input of the health care community in the development of each claim.

SSI Claims
We maintain a very active SSI practice for those disabled who are unable to qualify for Social Security disability on the basis of their work record and have limited resources. We also represent disabled children in their claims for SSI benefits. Professionally and personally, our greatest satisfaction is derived from the successful representation of disabled children. The empathy and compassion that we feel help us help our clients.
